A well known fact about the world is that 70% of it is covered in water. Yet major industry has not yet seen the sustainable potential of the vast forests below the sea. I happened across a method where chopped seaweeds can be dried with an eco-adhesive to form a sturdy dried material. After many months of experimentation and collaboration, I developed a product using this understated material. The end product was a fast food tray. When dry, the seaweed tray holds its shape, and once used it can be returned to the ocean, or sent to landfill, where it can be eaten by gastropods such as snails and slugs. Underwater, the tray disintegrates in under two hours.
